Shoreline, Spey Bay

The rocks on this stretch of the shore are remarkably consistent in size & shape. The result of this is that they form repeating/regular mini dips and inlets along the shoreline. Similar process to "Kelvin–Helmholtz" cloud formation. [190513_2573.jpg]

Sun pays a visit (Spey Bay)

The sun appears to have dropped down through the clouds to pay us a visit. The "cloud" is actually smoke from a major brush fire, which has been burning for several days. [190422_1255.jpg]

Sundog & Geese Rising (Longmanhill, Aberdeenshire)

A "Sundog", or "Mock Sun" is a rare optical phenomena, where the real sun (which is out of shot, to the right of this image) is flanked on one or both sides by a patch of bright light. The effect is caused by flat, hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the air. The crystals tend to lie flat as they gently float down, reflecting & refracting the sunlight and creating this bright halo. A flock of geese happened to take off from the field in front of me as I was lining up the shot. [171210_6051.jpg]
