Fire in the Hole #3 [Dawn at Bow Fiddle Rock]

Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural sea arch at Portknockie. It is part of the Cullen Quartzite formation, seen along the coast between Buckie and Cullen and dating from 1,000 to 541 million years ago. These rocks were folded to a near 45 degree angle when the ancient continents of Laurentia and Avalonia collided. They later became exposed at the surface where sea and weather eroded the structure seen today. [wikipedia] From this viewpoint, the sun rises through the Bow for a couple of days at two times of the year. This was the final image of the set, taken before the colour washed out and it turned into a flat, grey morning. At the top of the image is some high Cirrus cloud, with the last of the dark night sky behind. Below that, some Altocumulus, leading into Altostratus behind the rock itself.
